ARCHIVE v.0.2.021

Hello Everyone,

finally here is the new version of Archive 0.2.021. This one took quite a while as this one is a bigger update. Since the last update nearly two month went by. So this is what happend.

Archive in 3D

Due to testing and it's feedback it became clear that an important part in functionality is missing. And this is Archive being realtime 3D. In our mind it was more of a nice feature for future expansion. But without that, not only a bunch of gameplay content is impossible, furthermore you as creators of content are not able to modify her visually.

As mentioned before, porting Archive to RT3D is a huge task. But we started with that. A couple of weeks went into that and we could manage to figure out the core pipeline of creating models and animations, transfer them into unity and set all of this up in a new coded interface. As a first goal we are aiming to replace the current images with the 3D equivalent. The feature of modifying her will be the step after. The functionality for that is already in place. But modifying means content and so something time consuming.

All of this is not included yet! We developed this in a separate environment thus we could work on archive undisturbed. At some point we will fuse both of this branches.

Features of this update

Ok, so, the same amount of time went into this update. Again we added features. A list of them you can find below. But this update is more about content. To give you an idea of size: The last version 0.2.005 had around 1200 notes. Now we are at 2400. The larger part of new notes is logic but still there is alot new text content included.

This new notes are focused on a dynamic storytelling core. Within the last version archive was more of a straight story. And with that only playable and interessting one time. But this is not our goal. We want Archive to be interesting and enjoyable over and over again, evolving over time. And to achive that, we need a story that recreates it self every time you play it. This is an ambitious goal. As this requires a huge size of story bits and piece the engine can choose from. By now only a small smount of pieces are written but we hope it's enough to get an idea of where all this is heading to.

The written pieces and the connection to older existing story parts are not 100% polished yet. Also will the experience feel a bit boring or sometimes simple / flat. So please keep in mind, it's only the beginning of it. We likewise want to point out that this update is not only a huger one. A dynamic aka random story selection has an even larger number of possible combinations we have to test. In short we can not test them all and strongly depend on your feedback.

Bugs

As some of you know we had this version ready to go online right in the beginning of 2022. But especially one bug took us nearly three weeks to find and fix. And as this was a very disruptive one we had to postpone the release of this version until today! But here it is with even more features that got into it while debugging.

At this point we once again like to thank all of you who helped us!

We hope you have a great time with Archive. Let us know what you think!

Greets,

NH
